For thestudents, a question about last Monday's homework:

Did you findit easy to write about a time you experienced nothingness while meditating?

Sometimespeople have a profound consciousness awakening while meditating.

Donna GordonYes, everyone's experience ofconsciousness awakening and the higher senses to be very different from oneanother.

My pointabout consciousness awakening is to talk about the book of Exodus in the Bible.

Donna GordonIf we look at the deepest level ofunderstanding of Exodus we will see that it is full of the discovering ofconsciousness and God.

For examplewhere does Moses encounter God for the first time?

Donna GordonDoes anyone remember where Moses was whenhe first encountered God at the burning bush?

Donna GordonYes, ning Xu, Moses was in the desert.

Donna GordonJessica, the Bible also describesencounters with God on mountains also.

So we seethat God is encountered in the wilderness areas and also on top of mountains.

Why do youthink that this is?

Donna GordonJessica is on to something!

Li Ling andNing Xu also mentioned that God does not usually encounter people in crowedsocial areas.Very true.

Fu Feng,Moses encountered God at a thornbush that was burning, but not really beingburnt up.

As Imentioned at the end of our last class. Moses is watching his sheep out in the desert when he encounters God asa burning bush.

God/supremeForce/ is seen here as light.

Donna GordonWhat can light be a metaphor for?

Donna GordonYes, there is a saying in English,"He saw the light".

It is aphrase that means that someone has come to a profound realization or awareness.

Stupid

Donna GordonStupid, I do believe that God is arepresentation of the vast and most powerful force in the universe, so yes, light can come from God.

So Moses isin the wilderness, just observing his surroundings and has an encounter withGod.

Let's lookat the symbols here.

Watching theflocks of sheep = awareness or observation.

Desert =emptiness

Light fromthe bush = supreme consciousness

Donna GordonIf we put these things together what canwe say about this process in our own lives?

Donna GordonWhat it says to me is that through theprocess of just going to emptiness and observing ourselves, we can reach astate of communion with God or enlightenment.

Sometimesout of nothingness or emptiness, our greatest ideas can be created.

So, afterbecoming more enlightened, Moses is told by God to go back to Egypt to freethe Hebrew people from their slavery.

If you are aslave, how are you feeling?

Donna GordonIt is a very painful condition. You feeloppressed, yes?

You havelimitations.

You are notfree to move around and do as you want.

Donna GordonYou feel like you might be in a verynarrow place, yes?

I said atthe end of our last class that the Hebrew word for the country Egypt, means narrow place.

This namecame about because of the oppression of the Jewish people when they were slavesin Egypt.

Moses goesback to Egypt and through aseries of 10 plagues from God, the Pharoah of Egypt decides to let the Jewishpeople leave Egypt.

They flee Egypt and God divides the Red Sea so that the Jewish people can cross on dry land.

Donna GordonBut after they leave Egypt, Pharoah changes his mind andsends his army after them.

Donna GordonLet's talk about the 10 plagues for a fewmoments.

Jessicabrought up some good points about how could God make so many people suffer.

This is howthe Bible describes the process of the 10 plagues.

Donna GordonThere is a formula.(这里有个准则。)

1. Moses, asthe speaker for God, tells Pharoah about the next plague.
2. Pharoahsays I will not let the people go.
3. theplague occurs.
4. Pharoahsays get out of here, and then God changes Pharoah's mind by hardening hisheart.

The key wordhere is that Pharoah would have let the people go early in the process.

But there isa reason why God doesn't want to let the people go quickly.

God wants toshow the Egyptians and the Hebrew people how powerful he is.

The ancientEgyptians worshipped many different Gods, so God wants to show the Egyptiansthat the God of oppressed Jewish slaves is more powerful than all of the godsof a powerful nation like Egypt.

So what canwe say about God in this exchange?

God has avery big ego!!!!

Donna GordonI am agreeing with you, Fu Feng. Too muchsorrow. Too much bloodshed when power and ego are mixed together.

God needs toshow his great power to not only the Egyptians, but to the Jewish people.

Donna GordonIf people are brought up in manygenerations of slavery, are they not used to it and afraid of trying somefreedom?

Donna GordonWhy does God need to kill to prove hispower through killing people?
Why can't hebe a benevolent God?

If the Jewswere slaves, at least they had jobs to do, they had some food to eat.

If theyfollow a strange man named Moses and God out to the desert, will they be takencare of?

Donna GordonThe Jews in Egypt had what is known as a"Slave mentality".

It meansthat it is hard for them to think of themselves as free people and fending forthemselves after many years of slavery.

Donna GordonBasically, Fu Feng is right, God killedsome people in order to help other people.

Donna GordonWhat do you think of God's ego?

Donna Gordon孤笑, has said it verywell.  Sometimes in order for the wholesociety to progress, some people will suffer.

Survivalsometimes is a very cruel thing.

Life is notalways fair to everyone in a situation.

Take a lionwho catches a zebra for his dinner.

The lionbenefits from eating the zebra.  The liongets to live another day.

The zebradies, but his energy goes to benefit the lion.

Two ends ofthe spectrum.

God's ego ishuge, but this is what he needs to do in order to get his people to follow himout of Egypt.

At our nextclass we will talk about how important it was for the Jewish people to leave Egyptand build their portable temple in the wilderness.

Donna GordonI understand what Jessica is saying.  the Lion and the zebra are in a symbioticrelationship with each other.

God killedjust people. How can this be a benefit?

Donna GordonHave we not seen throughout the historyof mankind that man always resorts to killing his fellow man?

Is it right?

When does itstop?

Donna GordonIt stops when people become enlightenedenough to see that killing others for power is using our lower senses.

Donna GordonWhen we begin to use our higher senses tosee that we are all connected on a soul level, then we will stop.
